A Brief History of Fenway
Park
Here is a brief history
of Fenway Park. The park opened first on April 20, 1912. Some
of the greatest players of the game played there for the Red Sox... Cy
Young, Babe Ruth, Jimmy Collins, Duffy Lewis, Tris Speaker, Harry Hooper,
Joe Cronin, Bobby Doerr, Johnny Pesky, Ted Williams, Jimmie Foxx, Jim Rice
and Carl Yastrzemski. The Boston Pilgrims played at Huntington Avenue
Grounds before they became the Boston Red Sox and started playing at Fenway.
The first game they played at Fenway was against the Yankees, formerly
known as the New York Highlanders. The ever so famous "Green Monster"
is a 37 foot tall wall in left field. That was added to the park
in 1934. In 1940, the bullpens in right field were added. They
were known as "Williamsburg" because Ted Williams always hit there.
