April
20, 1912- This was the day that the beautiful Fenway
Park opened
September
6, 1912- This was a fantastic pitching duel between
the Red Sox "Smokey" Joe Wood and the Washington Senator's "Big Train"
Walter Johnson. Both great pitchers, but the Red Sox came out on
top, 1-0.
September
28, 1941- This was the glorious day that Ted Williams
hit his amazing .406 batting average...the best ever
June
18, 1953- This amazing game against the Detroit Tigers
was capped off when the Red Sox finished the game with 27 hits and 23 runs.
And in one inning, 23 batters were sent to the plate, and 17 runs were
scored.
September
26, 1960- This was the very sad day in which Ted Williams
retired. Fortunatly, he went out with a bang. His last at bat
every, he smacked a home run.
April
14, 1976- This glorious game, 21-year old rookie Billy
Rohr pitched a no-hitter against the Yankees, until the last out of the
8th inning, when it was broken up by Elston Howard on a 3-2 pitch.
October
1, 1967- This great game was carried all by Carl Yastremski
when he carried the Red Sox over the Tigers for their first pennant in
21 years.
June
18, 1975- This day, rookie Fred Lynn, belted 3 home
runs, a triple and a single. That year, he won rookie of the year
and MVP.
October
21, 1975- A World Series game in 1975, with the sox
down 6-3 and two men on, Bernie Carbo crushed a home run over the left
field wall to tie up the game. Later that inning, Carlton Fisk scored
a run, and the Sox won the game. Unfortunatly they didn't win the
Series.
September
12, 1979- This was the day in which Carl Yastemski
hit is 3,000 hit, but unfortunatly, it was his last. For, he retired
after that game.
April
29, 1986- This was the day that rookie ace Roger Clemens
struck out 20 Detroit Tigers. This set a major league record for
strike outs in a 9 inning game.
October
12, 1986- The Angels were one strike away from going
to the World Series, when Dave Henderson stopped them, and drove a 2-2
pitch into the bleachers, to put the Sox ahead. The Angels tied it
up, but the Red Sox pulled ahead again, and won. And as all Sox fans
know, they went to the World Series, and lost.
